Dorchester Court residents plan day of action against rent-rising landlords, Sat 2nd May noon

Residents of the Dorchester Court estate are planning a day of action this Saturday, in protest at the treatment they’re receiving from their landlord.

A private renters campaign group called D.C. Resists has been set up to fight for a fair deal for residents of the Herne Hill estate, which is owned by a single freeholder company called Manaquel -who are also the landlord to most of the residents.

Their day of action (squeezed into 2 hours) is happening this Saturday 2nd May from 12 midday until 2pm atn Dorchester Court, Herne Hill SE24 9QX. Campaigners will have banners for a press photo opportunity which will then be on permanent display from residents’ balconies.

They say they are protesting against their landlord/freeholder Manaquel for allowing the buildings to fall into disrepair while pushing massive rent hikes for tenants by as much as 60% in a single year.

Campaigners claim that anybody who questions these rises finds when their AST contract expires that the landlord is unwilling to renew and the tenant faces eviction.

They are expecting housing activists from across London to attend the protest in support of their ‘struggle for decent affordable homes free of victimisation’.

If you’d like to join the protest, the location map is below. The nearest train stop is Herne Hill or the 68, 468, 42 and P4 buses all come even closer. B
