Lambeth Council Leader available for a £90 breakfast briefing to discuss the Politics of Planning

Cllr Lib Peck

Fancy cosying up for a nice roundtable discussion with Lambeth Council Leader Lib Peck to chinwag over the Politics of Planning?

Good news! A breakfast briefing has been arranged for 24 March at the swish London Marriott Hotel, County Hall. It will only cost you £90 to have a bowl of Cornflakes and discuss any planning issues with the Leader of the Council.

The event is being organised by SP Broadway, a communications consultancy specialising in planning.

The company prides itself on:

“Building relationships with key political, community and media stakeholders to gain planning consent for our clients.”

Which sounds to us very much like a LEGITIMATE [phew] way of helping developers to ‘find the best outcome’ when they are dealing with politicians such as Lib.

How does all of this process work?

“By understanding politicians, consulting communities and briefing the media, we guide your project off the drawing board, through the planning committee and onto the building site.”

Lib and Lambeth Council will need plenty of guidance over the coming months. Lib’s main interest is as Co-Chair of the partnership overseeing the regeneration of Vauxhall Nine Elms.

Back in the real world and hopefully her Cabinet will soon be in a position to announce the decision over Cressingham Gardens after extensive consultations with the residents.

We find it slightly odd that a public representative feels the need to speak at what is a very private breakfast briefing.

We trust that the message that Lib will be telling the developers at the Marriott Hotel event will be the same one that the Council has been passing on during the Cressingham consultations.

If you have £90 to spare for some fancy toast and marmalade then you can book a place with Lib at the Marriott over here.

Note: All prices are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.

  1. Clarification: We originally published this piece stating that a seat at the top table would set you back £95.

We’re happy to clarify that The Politics of Planning is available at the knock down price of £90.

  2. Well, I purchased a ticket and received a confirmation email on Wednesday:
“Thank you for your booking. I can confirm that a place has been reserved for you at the above event”

It would have been good to get the extra “training” on planning and development processes. However, today I received the following email from the organisers:
“I am sorry to have to inform you tthat I have to cancel your booking that you made on Wednesday. I have been informed but the event organisers that they are over subscribed for the event. I will therefore cancel your booking and refund the £108 back onto the credit card.”

Either they have a very sub-standard event booking system that allows over-subscriptions, or is there some more nefarious reason?
