Post punk club Sleaze in the South slithers back into the Windmill for a budget priced night of entertainment. Headlining the event is veterans The Homosexuals, backed by Hotgothic, Dennis and Sleaze.

Packing a liver-troubling selection of spirits and ales, this vintage-styled bar hosts DJs slapping on selections of ska, northern soul, bluegrass, country, and rock and roll.

The stage will be groaning under the combined weight of Messrs DJs Frank Jones, Big Bad Bal and multiple boxes of lovely vinyl 45s as the Brixton Surf City gang mash up rock and roll, punk, new wave and 60s garage classics.

The hard drinking Offline crew are bringing the Brixton party back to the Albert, with a team of DJs throwing down a no-nonsense, fun packed night of dancefloor bangers in this affordable boozer on Coldharbour Lane. Expect an unpretentious, night of drinking and dancing powered by ska, punk, drum’n’bass, pop, indie and anything else that makes your flappy bits oscillate in an agreeable manner.

It’s nowhere to be seen on the Brixton hipsters’ radar, and that’s a blooming good thing because this intimate, Eastern themed, multi-room bar/club has long been one of the area’s hidden gems. Quirky, offbeat and always interesting, it’s always worth a look.

The Beekays at the Blues Kitchen

Resident band The Beekays headline this outrageously pricey night, with a set of classic rock and roll designed to shake one’s tailfeather in a highly agitated kind of manner.

Audio Sushi at the Dogstar

Easter Thursday at Effra Social and Dogstar - photos

This long serving Brixton institution remains one of the biggest parties in town, spawning vast queues up Coldharbour Lane, while party bangers are delivered by Audio Sushi DJs inside. Photo ID is needed to enter the portals of the Dogstar, so bring along your documents or heaven knows how miserable you will be.

Bashment Party at The Coronet Theatre
28 New Kent Road, Elephant & Castle, SE1 6TJ, 11pm-5am, £15
There’s a night of bashment, dancehall, soca and reggae in store, with a fleet of DJs on the decks including DJ Nate, Younger Melody, Invasion Crew, DJ Larni and Supa Nytro, plus live performances by Mr Pattern and Lil Keish. They’re a bit particular in the sartorial department, insisting that punters dress “smart and stylish,” keep their noggins hat-free and only wear “Fresh Trainers.”

Gambia’s premier percussionist Musa M’Boob also sings and plays the sabar, djembe, dun dun, snare, and tama and is joined for this freebie gig by backing band XamXam. Expect a night of Gambian language jazzy modern Afro-pop.

Old school Brixtonites may lament the growing homogenisation of this traditional boozer tucked away from the main drag, but their Sunday jazz sessions are still one of the best places to wind down after a mad weekend. Grab yourself a Guinness or three and let those silky smooth horn parpings and freeform fretboard excursions banish all thoughts of the upcoming week of work.

Chomp tasty slices of pizza and grind your pepper mill in time to top notch live jazz at this intimate restaurant, a mere five minutes perambulation from Streatham Hill train station.

Grass Roots Live Music at Club 414

Live music Sundays at Club 414: the best late bar in Brixton

This new free regular night is proving a popular attraction amongst locals, with an all-star band laying down some lively jazz, reggae and blues in Coldharbour Lane. Led by UB40 trumpet player Patrick Anthony, the razor-tight house band invites musicians new and old to come up on stage and join in. Running till 2am, it’s a great way to wrap up the week.
