The popular, fantastic and free Crystal Palace Overground Festival is set to expand in a move to Crystal Palace park between 12th – 18th June this summer and the organisers are hosting a House and Hip Hop fundraiser to kick things off on Friday 17th March.
Anerley Town Hall (the venue of many big festival nights with bands such as Metamono, Sculpture and Alex Paterson of the Orb) will see Lol Hammond, Chris Coco and DJ Prime Cuts bring their own distinctive brands of dance music together to help raise funds for this year’s free festival.
Lol Hammond has been doing his thing since the early 90’s as part of Spiral Tribe and he also founded the Drum Club, both the seminal club in the Soundshaft (remember that?) and as part of a recording duo with his partner Charlie Hall.
Chris Coco has been DJing since the acid house explosion of the late 80s. His club/festival/party sets are mainly proper house featuring the best of the current releases and a selection of classics with a little slo mo disco and a few eclectic surprises thrown in.
He currently broadcasts and syndicates a weekly electronic music radio show called Melodica and runs his label, Melodica Recordings, out of his studio/office in London www.chriscoco.com
With his partner Tony Vegas, DJ Prime Cuts (Scratch Perverts) has shifted between genres with ease and enjoyed a long residency at Fabric in London.
As the Scratch Perverts, they’ve supported the likes of The Beastie Boys and The Sex Pistols amongst countless others, playing and partying around the world as well as producing their own impressive catalogue of bangin’ choonz.
The Crystal Palace Overground Festival Fundraiser takes place on Friday 17th March at Anerley Town Hall, Anerley Road, SE20 8AJ (8pm til 1:30am). Tickets are £20 plus booking fee and can be purchased here. Nearest station: Anerley Overground
