There’s emotional scenes taking place in Brixton right now with David Bowie fans gathering around the mural to drink, sing and dance.
Exactly a year ago, the music world was stunned by the news of Bowie’s death, and Brixton responded with a spontaneous party in Windrush Square and other packed events in local bars.
There’s been a week of events around Brixton to mark the first anniversary of Bowie’s death – earlier this evening there was a party in Windrush Square with this fantastic projection.
Currently taking place by the mural (opposite Brixton tube station) is a fantastic street party, which had been advertised on Facebook as the Bowie Fan Meet Up For the 1st Anniversary.
There’s a sound system playing Bowie and as of 10.45pm (Tues 10th Jan), the party was in full swing.
Here’s some more photos:
Brixton Buzz has been recording the changing messages, artwork and flowers left by the mural over the last 12 months, with fresh flowers and tributes being placed over the past few days.
The Bowie mural can be found directly opposite Brixton tube station, just off the main road.
