Lambeth Archives, an important local resource located next to the now closed Minet Library in Myatt’s Fields, remains closed today.
A source close to the library told Brixton Buzz:
Lambeth Archives was forced to close on Friday. Archivists were driven from their desks and escorted off site after humiliating bag searches.
No notice was given about the closure. Concerned volunteer researchers were turned away at the door and Heritage Lottery Funded training sessions for the Monday were cancelled at short notice.
The archive is negotiating to re open but they are unable to access their phone. We need to support this unique and irreplaceable archive. 5 rooms of documents are at risk.
The Archives Twitter feed confirmed that they remain closed today.
We are sorry due to unforeseen circumstances @LambethArchives is closed today Friday 8 April
