More luxury for Brixton: former Harmony/Mingle bar converted to living space for the rich

Once again, a former Brixton bar is being turned into a luxury private development for the well off, with Keating Estates now advertising “luxury flats” on the site of the former George pub (more recently known as Mingles and Harmony).

Keating Estates seem to be big on this concept of luxury: earlier this year they were proclaiming their forthcoming luxury flats on another former pub, Mango Landin in St Matthews Road, SW2.

So it's goodbye to the Harmony Bar/Mingles/The George on Railton Road, Brixton

The original George public house stood on the corner of Effra Parade and Railton Road, Brixton. Rebuilt in the 1930s, it was destroyed during the 1981 Brixton riots as “an act of revenge for years of racial discrimination.”

Rebuilt in the 1980s, it served as a late (and rather lively) bar under the names Mingles and Harmony before closing in 2013.
