Launching on Tuesday 16th June, the Brixton Bonus will be the first regular prize draw to operate in a local currency, giving Brixtonites and Brixton regulars the chance to spend B£1000 into the local economy through the hundreds of businesses accepting B£s.

Revenue from the Bonus will be used to support local social projects and businesses through the ‘Brixton Fund’, a new local micro-grants scheme designed to provide an accessible funding avenue for grass-roots groups.

Binki Taylor, co-chair of the Brixton Pound, said:

There’s the winner taking home B£1000, there are the local businesses in which that prize money is spent, and there are the local projects creating positive change with access to this new stream of financial support – the Brixton Bonus is a win for Brixton every time.

The Brixton Bonus will open to all members of the public for £1/B£1 an entry at midday on Tuesday 16th June via the Brixton Pound website, with the first draw taking place on 19th July at the Lambeth Country Show.

Additionally to a jackpot of B£1000, the inaugural draw includes 11 runners-up prizes:

  • Massage, shiatsu and osteopathy sessions from Brixton Therapy Centre
  • A £50 voucher to spend at Seven @ Brixton
  • A full day’s venue hire at Tulse Hill Estate worth £200
  • A £50 voucher to spend at Lowie
  • A gift from 20 Storey
  • 5 X B£20 cash prizes to spend in Brixton’s famous independents.

Licensed by Lambeth Council as a ‘Small Society Lottery,’ the Brixton Bonus will run monthly and members of the public are able to buy a maximum of 10 tickets per month.

The Brixton Fund intends to make its first grant disbursements in autumn 2015.
