It’s fair to say that locals aren’t exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out options around Loughborough Junction, so we were excited to hear about a new cafe opening up, right next to the overground railway station.
The Blue Turtle Oasis is located at 210 Coldharbour Lane, SW9, in the corner premises formerly occupied by GMB Food .
The exterior of the new cafe is easy to miss and somewhat understated with its darkened windows – we thought it might be a sex shop at first (!) – but inside you’ll find a minimalist but friendly space (and an awful lot of blue).
View from 1908 when the premises housed J W Clark Fish restaurant – stewed eels a speciality.
Fitted into an irregular space, the cafe features a counter at the far end, a long wood shelf running along one wall with some stools, and a couple of tables and comfy chairs. It all seems laid back and relaxing.
We’re not sure what the orange wall painting is all about though.
The coffee took some time coming but it was very good indeed – easily as good as our former favourites, Federation Coffee in Brixton Village (the growing queues of tourists and endlessly changing staff took the fun out of that that place for us) .
The menu is fairly limited, but the prices are very reasonable.
In line with the minimalistic theme, there’s a fairly basic selection of food on offer, sparsely laid out along the counter.
We enjoyed our visit to the Blue Turtle Oasis, and think that it’s a welcome addition to the area – the coffee is excellent, the prices reasonable and there’s a decent range of snacks on offer.
There’s also free wi-fi available too, so it’s a handy place to get a bit of work done. We’ll be back.
