There were goals a plenty at Champion Hill yesterday as the mighty Dulwich Hamlet thumped six past Shoreham FC in the First Round Qualifying of The FA Cup.
The Sussex County League Division One team with a long history were outclassed by a buoyant Hamlet team who were – as ever – spurred on by their lively set of fans.
Shoreham were under pressure from the start, and the first goal soon came from Hamlet.
Shoreham’s goalie – who seemed to take the afternoon’s drubbing in very good humour – had a very busy afternoon, and he made some decent saves as Hamlet racked up the pressure.
2-0 to the Hamlet.
Erhun Öztümer confidently puts away the spot kick to put Hamlet 3-0, but his best was yet to come.
From this free kick, Erhun Öztümer scored one of the finest goals I’ve seen at Champion Hill.
The ball arced high into the air before magically swerving in to the near corner of the goal. The goalkeeper was only able to stand and stare at the wonder goal.
The fans go wild!
Hamlet kept up the pressure, and the first half ended with the pink and blue boys 4-0 up.
Kids entertaining themselves during the interval.
The mighty merchandise stand.
A garden decorated with pink and blue balloons.
A young fan has a go on the Hamlet voodoo stick.
The second half begins, and the beleaguered Shoreham goalie prepares for another onslaught.
More goals were to come in the final 45 minutes, taking the final score up to 6-0.
Credit has to go to Shoreham who took their defeat with good grace and some humour.
Dramatic save from the Shoreham goalie.
Shoreham gamely battled on till the end, but failed to create any real chances, with Hamlet emerging as the worthy winners.
