Barrelhouse at the Prince Albert, Brixton – review

Barrelhouse at the Prince Albert, Brixton - review

Describing themselves as ‘Blues & Soul meet Appalachian Rock and Roll,’ Barrelhouse host regular shows at the Prince Albert on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton. We checked them out last night.

Barrelhouse at the Prince Albert, Brixton - review

A tight four-piece of accomplished musicians, the band’s warm sound is driven by the authentically husky, bourbon-drenched voice of the keyboard player.

His dark, gritty, Tom Waits-esque inflections and the band’s confident swing can take you back to a bar room in the deep, deep south – especially if you’ve partaken in some of the Albert’s fine spirits.

Barrelhouse at the Prince Albert, Brixton - review

The band delivered a set of  well crafted covers till around midnight and made for a really enjoyable alternative to the usual madness of a Coldharbour Lane Saturday night.

They’re often to be found at the Albert, so check out our listings for the next show.
